Photography 1

In Photo 1 Students will briefly explore the history of photography; from its beginning to present day; the digital age.  Students will understand the history of Photography more as they explore two dark room processes; the Photogram and Pinhole Photography.  Then students will begin to use the Digital SLR and Point and Shoot Cameras.  This course will familiarize the student with digital photographic equipment, software, materials, and methods through hands-on practice. They will learn about Shutter and Aperture, how a camera can be used in Manual Mode for creative shots.  Students will review the Elements of Art and Principles of Design and how they are needed for creating photographs.  Students will learn about basic composition and what makes a good photograph. Students will continue to be exposed to the history of photography and photographers by studying and emulating a variety of photographic styles.  It is helpful for students to have access to digital cameras, but there are cameras for student use inside and outside of school. Projects that are assigned meet NYS Learning Standards for the Arts and Common Core Standards.
