Check out this amazing artist; Barry "Wildman"  Snyder! Even his name is pretty wild!  He creates his artwork entirely out of produce stickers.  Those stickers have always annoyed me, tough to get off sometimes, and hard to throw away because they stick to you! Just goes to show you can create amazing things out of the most interesting materials. It all starts with a vision!

The 2012-2013 school year has begun at MCS.  2nd Floor Studio is full of new faces, old faces, and lots of new ideas and energy.  Students are already busy creating and expressing as well as learning.  Some classes had to go through NYS pre-assessments, which were long and tedious, but important and good to get them over. No more major tests until the end of the year! Stay posted for new images and news!

The Cloisters Museum, NYC

The Cloisters Museum


A little secret lies on the most northern tip of Manhattan, a part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cloisters.  The Cloisters contains a large portion of the early Middle Ages and Renaissance Art.

The tickets are the same; you could really go to the Met's large museum down on 5th Ave and 82nd street and then bring your ticket up to the Cloisters on the same day.  Although both museums really deserve a nice long visit.

The Cloisters are located on Margaret Corbin Drive up in Fort Tryon Park on the northern tip of Manhattan island.  The museum itself is a medieval castle.  It is made up of five medieval cloisters imported from France.

The most popular art in the museum is the famous Unicorn Tapestries, although there are many other interesting pieces.  Like this altar piece carved out of alabaster in the 1400's.  

This painting of St. Michael was among one of my favorites.  The devil he is slaying was very interesting and the symbolism was fascinating.

The next time you are looking for something to do in NYC, consider the Cloisters.  It is a fascinating trip back into Medieval and Renaissance times.  The setting is amazing and the artwork is wonderful.

Just finishing hanging all of the work for our first annual March Youth Art Month Art show in which we partnered with the Central Chamber of Commerce to support our students.  The students work is featured in local businesses for a month and then will move to our Gallery space for an Awards Ceremony.  First places and Honorable Mentions have been chosen in grouped grade levels.  The artwork is being viewed by parents and families, friends, community members, and tourists.  The Watershed Post did a piece on it just last week, check it out!

I am embarking on a new venture of creating a site for my classroom.  This is my first year of teaching Art at the High School level and nowadays technology is entwined with every single lesson.
